Morris & Co. Collaborative Wallpaper

As part of York Art Gallery’s exhibition The Art of Wallpaper: Morris & Co., I developed and delivered a drop-in family workshop focused on block printing and pattern-making. Drawing inspiration from the floral and geometric designs of Morris & Co., participants were guided through the process of designing and printing their own motifs.
The activity took place in the gallery atrium, allowing for open access and spontaneous participation. Individual prints were made on one continuous roll of paper, creating a collaborative piece in real time. After the workshop, I digitally scanned and coloured each contribution, assembling them into a repeat pattern.
The final wallpaper was professionally printed and installed as part of the exhibition, offering visitors a chance to see their contributions woven into a larger decorative artwork—bridging historical design with hands-on, contemporary creativity.
