Creative Practice MA

Collages to illustrate some of the ideas and concepts in my MA dissertation.

Sacred objects.

Different Perspectives.

Technology as a tool.

Making objects sacred can have the effect of divorcing them from ‘real life’, just as the untouchable art in galleries is. Often, the impact of this on original meaning is that it becomes obscured over time or lost altogether. In this way, some rituals appear to have become traditions with any practical benefit being lost or forgotten. So how do we connect with objects other than through play or touch? I am of the opinion that objects of all kinds (not just those that were produced for ritual use or as art) function as storytelling rituals themselves. I believe that an empathic connection is strongest to objects that are hand crafted. When one experiences an object that has been produced by someone with skill and care, an imaginary connection is formed, through which one understands something about the life of the person who made it and simultaneously one considers it in relation to ones self.
