Wellington Place Window Collage

Created using digital collage, the artwork plays with ideas of place and how buildings, cities, places mean different things to different people.

Displayed as a window vinyl in Wellington Place Leeds, this work is designed to bring character and personality to the new development as well as making a statement about the history of the place.
The archways reference the architecture of the railway lifting tower, which is still in situ. Cogs and gears allude to the industrial past but are also a metaphor for creative thought and progress. The large eyes are a compositional device to create a point of focus but also give the building a human feel.

I considered windows in a spiritual and philosophical sense whilst making this work, describing how we are able to look into and out of different worlds,  the eyes and the decorative pattern ‘crowning’ the composition are a nod to different cultural ideas on thought and sight. Energy, positivity and connection are central to this work.
